“Sticks and stone may break my bones, but words can never harm me!” Is this true?
Actually, no. Emotional abuse can traumatize us. Depending on the degree of abuse and trauma, trauma changes the chemical makeup and wiring of our brain. Therefore, emotional abuse can actually become a physical abuse.
There is no way of measuring the physical damage caused by emotional abuse. We can measure to some extent the emotional damage, and that damage may present itself as depression or the diseases which depression causes such as bipolar, or suicide.
An abused person may display signs of Stockholm’s disease, where there is loyalty to the predator. We may make up excuses, justifying the predator. It s all a part of being abused, violated and traumatized.
Healing comes by talking with sane people, safe people. It takes a long time for unlearn the lies we were taught and relearn truth.
