The Societal Aspect

Societal: Where relationships were on a one-to-one basis, Societal is on a one-to-group level. It is the society that gives us standards. If the society is healthy, then it is easier for us either to be healthy, or at least know what healthy is and to rebel against this as a black sheep. But if society is unhealthy then what is the standard?

When the pilgrims came to this country it was so they could live life the way the pilgrims thought the Bible taught. It was so they could worship God without the king telling them how to think, how to worship or what church to attend. They wanted to raise their children without the influences of the Dutch society. Of course, they could not have arrived if not for the help of those who came with them. Only half the passengers on the Mayflower were pilgrims (41 out of 106). This does not include the sailors, although the captain was sympathetic to the cause. It was quite a mix. The point here is that from the beginning there was conflict and trials. Winter was harsh and half of them died that first winter.

Within twenty years of the pilgrims founding Plymouth, the puritans and the lawyers came: founding Boston. Their ideas of religion were slightly different from the pilgrims. Their societies very different, as was their relationship with the natives. A lot of old English ideas and customs came with these. Cutting off people’s heads and placing the heads on poles, an idea Queen Mary used incessantly, was one of them.

After the war with the Indian king, King Philip, this country went into a hundred year economic downturn. Then, after two hundred years, a great revival spread across the land. People came to know and respect God. Leaders like Tomas Jefferson, thought every second grader should read the Bible through in its entirety. The laws and the constitution they formed came from scripture. It was the genius of their faith that gave this country its constitutional beginning. What happens when a society rebels against God, His laws and ways? Will God bless them? He promises not to. The “melting pot” that makes this country great is the kettle of Christianity. When all peoples are absorbed into this, they become a beacon for all nations.

In the 1960’s, God was kicked out of schools. The “Sexual Revolution” or rebellion soon followed. This increased the curse of God on this nation. Where God says “These things should not even be mentioned in this nation,” it has become common place and taught to our children as normal.

After World War Two, Germany was devastated. Somehow, a golden throated politician had convinced a broken and abused people to follow him – at first in rebuilding the country, then into its destruction. Abuse is this way. After World War One, the people of the United States were led into a depression because of the high taxes and policies of FDR. The retribution in Germany was worse. France had enacted a vengeance and the price was high. The people of Germany were ripe and the golden throated Australian was an abuser waiting to happen. In America today, we see the same thing with the followers of FDR, Kennedy’s, Johnsons, Clintons, Obamas, Bushes, Reagans, and now Trumpsters. A hopeless people will latch on to any hope and blindly follow, ignoring the warning signs until it is too late or they will rise up to rally for right.

After the Second World War, Germany was devastated. More than one family went hungry. What could a father do? One father in particular, came to the America’s in hope of finding a new life. This meant the sacrifice of leaving his family behind. To a little girl, this was traumatizing. She could not understand the economic reasoning, she only understood the feeling of abandonment. Family separation at this time was a trauma that damaged her severely. Like me, she too moved to a neighborhood that did not welcome strangers.

I met her in her thirties. She was a very intelligent woman, but as I got to know her I noticed two things. She had a sketchy memory of her past, and a unique way of interpreting events. I now know these are signs of a past trauma or traumas.

Without safety, it is unlikely that the damage of past traumas can be repaired or even addressed. Because of the trauma, even if she was in a safe environment, like the little girl who kept hitting me, like many of us who were traumatized, she became abusive in acting out what she could not understand.

Here, in this example, I mention many ways society and philosophies can abuse people:

Margret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was an atheist who believed in a superior race. She thought that providing abortions was a perfect way of eliminating inferior races. Hitler adopted this philosophy, taking abortion to the higher level of eugenics. Today, some in the Democratic Party, still follow this philosophy.

Actually, I see a pattern of abuse where, the society of the sixties, those wanting “free sex” want to abuse girls, then if there is a pregnancy, they abuse them again by either forcing them or convincing them to have an abortion. This way, by abusing the girls again, they cover up their first crime.

Frank did this. One time I visited him and he mentioned that the girl I called Lori had told him she was pregnant. He told me, “I never thought I would suggest an abortion to anyone.” Looking back, I can now connect the dots. As a pedophile, he lived close to a collage where he could keep a lookout for prospects. He spotted her and stalked her to our church. Becoming a member, he found several people to violate. Afterwards, he left. In my innocence, I walked into the spider’s parlor. I was not the intended victim but I became a target of opportunity. Yippee.

The abuse between France and Germany goes back beyond Napoleon. Napoleon united France by declaring war on neighboring city-states. After Napoleon, Bismarck united Germany in the same manor. Starting in the northeast and working to the south. After he was satisfied with his conquests, he wanted to stop fighting. However, France would not let him. So he marched into Paris, took the king captive, then released him and went home.

American history blames the Germans for starting World War One, but the Germans see it differently. France was about to capitulate, agreeing to the terms that would have prevented war, but secret messages between Russia and France show there were agreements where Russia encouraged snipper and guerilla attacks, taking prisoners by both France and Russia until Germany was forced to declare war. After the war, the Versailles Treaty was extremely oppressive. Germany was forced to pay damages. This, during a depression that stretched across America and Europe.

An oppressed people will cling to any hope, and like today, the media became, not the voice of reason, but the voice of a political party producing propaganda. Rather than honest and objective news it tried to control the populous by reporting one party as favorable and the other parties as unfavorable. Enough people were led to vote for a good looking, well-spoken scoundrel. In a democracy, it only takes fifty percent plus one to elect someone. Hitler was voted in. There was nothing the opposing party could do but wait for the next election. The next election never came.

Children were taken at a young age and taught – indoctrinated – with false truths. They were convinced to fight for the Fatherland under the Nazi party. Today, other people teach children to carry bombs into crowded places and blow themselves up.

In the early sixties, God was kicked out of schools. Today, our children are taught there is no God and people who believe in God are fools. They are taught that sexuality should be explored in a variety of manors. This is abuse by the authorities. We are taught there is a separation between Church and State meaning the church should not influence the state. This is false. Our founding fathers meant for the people of God to run this country, not the country to run the people of God.

There are many more examples of how society becomes sick – leading people to believe false things, abusing people, families, neighborhoods, etc. I remember the short story by Shirley Jackson The Lottery. In which a society is depicted as normal, but had gone astray. It is up to us, as healthy individuals, to keep a society healthy. This is a long hard fight, a battle that every generation must face. Unfortunately, as the society becomes damaged, the individuals are more easily damaged and in greater number.
