Post 25: Brain Exercises

An important brain exercise is memorization. This performs several functions. It exercises the input, storage, recall and output of the brain. Understanding what we memorize exercises the processing network. If we memorize scripture, we also feed our soul while resetting our brain with truth.
The biggest problem I have with memorizing scripture is the simple fact that there are so many translations. When I read one and memorize that one, then read another translation, a word will be different and throw me off.
This problem starts with translating one language from another, but I am not about to memorize the original language. So, maybe to learn and memorize the concepts? Memorizing and understanding are two different things. Isn’t it better to understand something before we memorize? Nevertheless, when we memorize, understanding comes later. So the answer is “both/and”. We will do both.
Now I wonder where to place this new section in the website. It must be easy to get to and easy to use. After considering this, I decided to create a second string called “Brain Exercises 2: Memorization.” Here, I will place a passage to memorize. I will also make a button to expand them and discuss the meaning. This will give the context and make it easier to memorize. So, there will be verses and commentary.
I will keep the passages short. At the same time, however, there are important stories that are important to learn. The story of creation explains where we came from and why we are so important to God. The story of Adam and Eve, for another example explains where sin, sickness and death comes from. The story of Noah and the ark (box) explains how much God hates sin and how anxious He is to get rid of it. Without these as background, our first verse, John 3:16 has no meaning. Nevertheless, this is where we will start. I hope you find this an exciting adventure on our road to and beyond recovery.
